Ice Navigation Training

This training course provides theoretical knowledge and operational guidance for safe navigation in ice-covered waters. Participants will gain an understanding of the characteristics and hazards of ice, ice formation and drift, vessel performance and limitations in polar conditions, as well as voyage planning and execution in ice-infested waters.
The course also includes practical use of ice charts, satellite imagery, communication with icebreaking services, and risk assessment in polar navigation. Emphasis is placed on compliance with the Polar Code, SOLAS Chapter XIV, and STCW Regulation V/4, including relevant safety and environmental protection measures.
This course is intended to raise awareness and improve decision-making for deck officers and bridge team members operating in Arctic or Antarctic regions, in line with IMO Model Course 7.11.
