IMO Train the Trainer Course on Energy Efficient Ship Operation
Course Overview
This course has been developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in collaboration with the World Maritime University (WMU) to train instructors who will deliver courses on energy efficient ship operation. The course focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from ships through improved ship management and operational practices.
Course Objectives
- Prepare qualified trainers to deliver energy efficiency courses
- Ensure understanding of MARPOL Annex VI regulatory requirements
- Develop ship energy management skills
- Study modern energy efficiency technologies
Course Structure (6 Modules)
Module 1: Climate Change and the Shipping Response
Fundamentals of climate change, shipping's role in global emissions, international initiatives to reduce environmental impact.
Module 2: Ship Energy Efficiency Regulations and Related Guidelines
MARPOL Annex VI Chapter 4, EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index), SEEMP (Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan), IMO guidelines.
Module 3: From Management to Operation
Transition from strategic planning to practical implementation of energy efficiency measures on ships.
Module 4: Ship Board Energy Management
Practical aspects of energy management, consumption monitoring, ship system optimization.
Module 5: Ship Port Interface for Energy Efficiency
Interaction with port services, shore power supply, port operation optimization.
Module 6: Energy Management Plans and Systems
Development and implementation of energy management systems, ISO 50001, continuous improvement.
